A Brief Look at John F. Kennedy - 835 Words

â€Å" Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country. â€Å" A famous quote spoken by a U.S President whose term of office was cut short by a belligerent man. John F. Kennedy or JFK would grow to become one of the United States’s smartest and youngest Presidents in history. Unfortunately for JFK his life and term as President was cut short after being assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald. Although JFK did not serve a full term as President he affected our nation in many positive ways and was on the best presidents we ever had. John Fitzgerald Kennedy also known as â€Å"JFK† because of his initials was the 35th President of the United States and served in office from 1961 to 1963 ( â€Å"John F. Kennedy† ). Kennedy was born on†¦show more content†¦(â€Å" Nuclear Test Ban Treaty† ) JFK’s only major failure in office was the incident in Cuba with the Bay of Pigs. On April 15th, 1961 eight U.S B-26 bombers painted as Cuban air-force planes failed to effectively hit their Cuban airfield target leaving the Cuban air-force still intact. ( â€Å"The Bay of Pigs† ) A Brigade of Cuban exiles known as Brigade 2506 landed on the beaches of the Bay of Pigs and became under heavy fire by the Cuban air-force that was supposed to be destroyed and the mission failed for the U.S and the Cuban exiles. ( â€Å"The Bay of Pigs† ) Lee Harvey Oswald, allegedly JFK’s assassin was born on October 18th, 1939 in New Orleans, Louisiana. ( â€Å"Lee Harvey Oswald† ) Os wald was an aggressive child growing up and would often skip school at a young age. ( â€Å"Lee Harvey Oswald† ) When Oswald became old enough he joined the military and while in the military he got in trouble a lot and later defected to the Soviet Union for a few years ( â€Å"Lee Harvey Oswald Biography† ) It was evident that Oswald was belligerent and had many problems of his own. When Oswald returned to America and his family in Dallas, Texas it was not long before Oswald acquired firearms.
